Upcoming workshops and events:

June 4-5, Stained Glass: Designing with light

Snow Farm, the New England Craft Program, Williamsburg, MA

In just a weekend, explore all the techniques to create a hanging stained glass panel. Begin with how to cut glass, foil and solder, and create hanging hardware. Then design and build your own luminous piece of glass art. Instruction will include the basics and beyond, and you’ll have plenty of time to embellish your work and make it reflect your personal vision. Enjoy the hands-on experience and the beauty of working with glass. All levels welcome.

August 13+14, 2022 Mastering Mosaics: Getting Comfortable with Cement-Based Adhesives for Indoor and outdoor projects

Arundel Farm Gallery, Arundel Maine

Thinset is perhaps the most inexpensive and adaptable adhesive, suitable for indoor and outdoor use, but it can be confusing to buy it, store it, color it, mix it and use it.  Join me for a weekend workshop where we’ll learn and play with thinset and a huge variety of mosaic materials.  Learn to love thinset too, and leave with a striking piece of mosaic for your home or garden.

Day one of the workshop will include a brief overview of mosaic materials and adhesives, hands-on experimentation with thinset and a variety of tools,  exploration of colorants, creation of small mosaic pieces to grout on day 2, and planning for the larger projects that we’ll complete on day 2.

On day 2 each student will complete a project for indoors or outdoors. These could include a stepping stone, a wall hanging or a piece of garden art.  We will practice grouting, and those who wish to grout their larger project will take grout with them to finish the process at home.

October 8-10, Mixed Media Mosaics

Snow Farm, the New England Craft Program, Williamsburg, MA

Join Emily for an exploration of mosaics in all media. Experiment with a variety of traditional and innovative materials and discuss proper substrates and adhesives. Discuss indoor and outdoor mosaics, including how to assure that any outdoor creations will last through freeze-thaw cycles. Each student will make a 12”x12” mosaic and will participate in a variety of collaborative samples to build comfort with a wide range of materials. All levels welcome.
